Local children, young people and businesses unite to launch Coventry as a child friendly city.
Children and young people from schools across Coventry met with Council representatives and business leaders at St Mary’s Guildhall last week to celebrate the launch of Coventry’s ambitious new project to become a child friendly city.
Child Friendly Cov, led by Coventry City Council, is a campaign to ensure that Coventry is the best place in the UK for children and young people to live and grow up in - a place where they feel valued, supported and enjoy themselves.
The launch event saw the unveiling of four key pledges which underpin the project and a recognition that the children and young people in Coventry should always:
be and feel safe
have opportunities
be and feel healthy
be and feel valued
Organisations from across the city were in attendance to pledge their commitment to working collaboratively and the event saw presentations from representatives from Positive Youth Foundation, Etch & Pin and McDonald’s about the work already taking place locally to educate and empower the young people of the city.
The event commenced with a number of powerful poems and raps from the young people attending, led by Coventry spoken word poet and rapper, John Bernard.
